Grant to fund food hub facility equipment

The Cobscook Bay Resource Center in Eastport recently received a grant of $15,000 from the Hart Fund of the Maine Community Foundation. This gift will be used to purchase and install food processing and kitchen equipment at the resource center's new facility in downtown Eastport. Once completed, the licensed facility will provide a place for fishermen, farmers and gardeners to process and market Cobscook scallops and farm produce.

"This grant gets us much closer to marketing Cobscook scallops this winter," says Will Hopkins, executive director of the resource center.

The Cobscook Bay Resource Center is a not-for-profit organization that has been working since 1998 for sustainable development based on the bay's renewable resources. The development of a food hub facility will support fishing families and family farms, and help keep money in the local community.
